This piece measures approximately 40 x 10cm. I made this using clear glass with applied enamels. The design requires 3 firings to achieve the depth of colour and detail.
The final firing includes slumping the flat glass over a ceramic mould to create the curve.
This design features the uninhabited island Copinsay which you can see easily from the mainland of Deerness.
The RSPB Scotland nature reserve of Copinsay has a vast seabird colony that includes guillemots, kittiwakes, puffins and razorbills. The reserve consists of the uninhabited main island of Copinsay, three smaller islets of Corn Holm, Ward Holm, Black Holm and the Horse of Copinsay.
All my work is made in my studio Ingaskeldt in beautiful Orkney.
