I love this piece. So did someone else as it sold as soon as it was made. I’m now taking orders for this design. It won’t be exactly the same but very similar.
The glass measures 30 x 25 cm plus the base.
The design is based on the seashore at Rerwick. The Second World War Battery is near to where I live. It’s a favourite spot and has several war time lookouts and a crumbling gun emplacement. Well worth a look if you are visiting Orkney.
I work with clear glass and fire it three times with layers of enamels to create depth and detail.
The wooden base is made in Deerness by a craftsman who makes every base to fit each individual glass curve. The curves slump in an unpredictable shape and require fitting into the base snugly and securely. H sands three layers of paint to create a smooth surface a final coating of matte vanish seals the finish. An LED light is fitted and a cable and sealed plug complete his work. The base on this piece is matte black.
This piece will take approximately 3 weeks to complete.
All our work is made in beautiful Orkney. Again, if you are visiting call in to my studio Ingaskeldt in Kirkwall.
