Small free standing curve approximately 17 x 15 cm. This design depicts poppies against a blue Orkney sky.
This is a new version of this popular design.
I’ve upgraded the curve using only high and low firing enamels. I can mix the coloured enamels similarly to watercolours. This means each piece is unique as it would be impossible to make this piece exactly the same each time.
As usual, each item starts with cutting the shape from full size sheets of clear glass. After cleaning and sanding off rough edges I apply the first background wash of colour and fire the glass to 800 deg.
The following day, when the glass has cooled in the kiln, I apply the second layer of lower firing enamels and again kiln fire this to 700 deg.
The third and often fourth firing would involve adding further finer detail and texture to the design. If the design (like this piece) is slumped over a mould, the final firing would include this step.
Lastly the curve is inspected for any rough edges, which will be sanded down a polish and a sticker!
This design can be custom made into a light or have a stand in oak or painted wood. A quote can be provided if this is required.
Scapa Beach where the sea flows into Scapa Flow. This beach is a beautiful bay with Scapa Distillery at one side. All around the sand and waters edge are grasses with so many wild flowers, weeds and rushes.
All my work is hand made in Orkney.
